What Is ISO Certification?

An ISO certificate says an independent, accredited body has audited your business and found that it runs a management system meeting an international standard. In tenders it is frequently a qualifying condition. With corporate and export buyers it is often the difference between being shortlisted and being filtered out at vendor registration. And internally, if it is implemented rather than merely bought, it produces a documented way of working that survives staff turnover.

That last distinction matters, because the Indian market is full of certificates issued in days by bodies with no meaningful accreditation. They cost little and are worth exactly that — a serious buyer checks the accreditation, and a certificate from an unaccredited body fails the check. We work only with bodies accredited under NABCB or another IAF member, because the point of certification is that it withstands scrutiny.

Certification runs on a three-year cycle. The initial audit has two stages — a documentation review and then an on-site assessment of whether you actually do what your documents say. After certification there is a surveillance audit each year, and recertification at the end of year three. Non-conformities raised during audits must be closed within defined timelines.

Standards We Certify

ISO 9001

Quality

Quality Management System — the general-purpose standard covering process control, customer focus, documentation and continual improvement. Applicable to any organisation.

  • Most widely demanded in tenders
  • Applies to any sector
  • Foundation for other standards

ISO 14001

Environment

Environmental Management System — control of environmental impact, legal compliance, waste and resource management. Often required by export buyers.

  • Environmental compliance
  • Waste and emissions control
  • Valued in export markets

ISO 45001

Safety

Occupational Health and Safety Management System — hazard identification, risk control and worker safety. Common in manufacturing, construction and heavy industry.

  • Hazard and risk control
  • Reduces incidents and liability
  • Often a contractor prequalification

ISO 22000

Food safety

Food Safety Management System built on HACCP principles, for anyone in the food chain from production to service.

  • HACCP-based
  • For food processing and handling
  • Complements FSSAI licensing

ISO 27001

Information security

Information Security Management System — controls for data protection, access, incident response and business continuity. Increasingly required in IT and BPO contracts.

  • Required in IT and BPO contracts
  • Data protection controls
  • Client audit requirement

ISO 13485 & others

Sector-specific

Medical devices, energy management, business continuity and other sector standards, certified through the same accredited route.

  • Medical devices (13485)
  • Energy management (50001)
  • Sector-specific requirements

Benefits

What you actually gain from ISO Certification.

Tender and vendor eligibility

ISO 9001 is a stated prequalification condition in a large share of government and corporate tenders. Without it you are filtered out before your price is even seen.

Export buyer confidence

International buyers use accredited certification as a screening mechanism because they cannot audit every supplier themselves. It shortens their diligence and your sales cycle.

A business that runs on process

Properly implemented, the documented procedures, records and internal audits mean the business does not depend on one person remembering how things are done.

Fewer defects and complaints

The corrective action and root cause discipline the standard imposes is the mechanism by which recurring quality problems actually get eliminated rather than repeatedly firefought.

Eligibility

Check where you stand before applying — we confirm all of this on the first call anyway.

Who can get certified

  • Any organisation of any size — manufacturers, service providers, traders, IT companies, hospitals, educational institutions and NGOs.
  • The business must be legally registered and operating, with the activity to be certified actually being carried out.
  • The scope of certification must be clearly defined — which sites, which processes and which products or services are covered.
  • There is no minimum turnover or employee count requirement.

What certification requires from you

  • A documented management system — policy, objectives, procedures and records appropriate to the standard.
  • Evidence that the system has been operating for a reasonable period before the certification audit, typically at least two to three months.
  • At least one internal audit and one management review completed before the external audit.
  • Management commitment and a nominated person responsible for the system. Certification cannot be outsourced entirely.

Documents Required

Organisation documents

  • Business registration — incorporation certificate, partnership deed or Udyam certificate
  • GST registration and PAN
  • Address proof of all sites to be covered by the scope
  • Organisation chart with roles and responsibilities
  • List of employees by function
  • Applicable licences — factory licence, pollution consent, FSSAI, as relevant

Management system documents

  • Quality or management system manual, where applicable to the standard
  • Documented procedures and work instructions
  • Process flow charts for the key operations
  • Records of internal audits and their findings
  • Management review meeting minutes
  • Corrective and preventive action records
  • Training records, calibration records and supplier evaluations

How We Help You Get ISO Certification

What we handle for you, and the order we do it in.

Gap analysis

An assessment of your current practices against the standard, so you know what has to change before an auditor tells you.

Documentation development

Manual, procedures, work instructions and formats drafted to fit how your business actually operates, not generic templates that fall apart at audit.

Implementation support

Helping the team actually adopt the system — training, record-keeping discipline and the practical routines the standard requires.

Internal audit and management review

Conducting the internal audit and facilitating the management review, both of which are mandatory before the certification audit.

Accredited body coordination

Selection of a genuinely accredited certification body, application, audit scheduling and attendance at the audit with you.

Non-conformity closure

Root cause analysis and corrective action for every finding raised, submitted within the auditor's timeline so the certificate is not held up.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Gap analysis

    3 – 5 days

Review of current practices, documents and records against the standard, with a written gap report and action plan.

  2. 2

    Documentation

    2 – 3 weeks

Management system documentation developed and aligned to your real processes, then reviewed with your team.

  3. 3

    Implementation

    3 – 6 weeks

The system is put into practice and records begin to accumulate. Auditors look for evidence of operation, not just documents.

  4. 4

    Internal audit & review

    1 week

Internal audit conducted, findings closed, and the management review meeting held and minuted.

  5. 5

    Stage 1 audit

    1 – 2 days

The certification body reviews documentation and readiness, and identifies anything that would block the main audit.

  6. 6

    Stage 2 audit & certification

    2 – 4 weeks

On-site assessment of implementation, closure of non-conformities, and issue of the certificate valid for three years.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the standard, the number of sites, employee count and the complexity of your processes. There are two components: the certification body's audit fee, and the consultancy fee for documentation and implementation. We quote both separately and in writing so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

Government fees, scheme limits and eligibility norms are revised from time to time. Figures on this page are indicative — our team confirms the rules in force on the day of filing before you commit to anything.
